Short Film: Yeye

Yeye (Grandpa)

This short film was an experiment and a documentation of the photography/archival work I've done with my grandfather's old photographs. It is a project about memory, loss, and family.

The poem below was written to accompany the original photography work:

This is not meant to be sorrowful;
These are not symptoms of dementia;
These are not elements of a tragedy;
These are not objects of commemoration;
These are not relics taken from someone else’s past;
These are not windows through which you review one’s life;
These are not still.

These are flowing;
These are active memories;
These are fragments of light in time;
These are significant moments;
These were taken by him;
These are taken by me;
These were important to him;
These are still important to him;
These are escaping his mind;
These are being captured;
These are now;
These are not now;
These were his art;
These are my art;
This is our art;
This is our memory.
